Dirty Water, Dirty Business: The Sewage Scandal on Our Doorstep
Many of you will have seen the extraordinary Channel 4 docudrama A Dirty Business, which has brought the scandal of sewage-polluted waterways to a wider audience. It highlights the amazing work done by the Windrush Against Sewage Pollution group (WASP) in Witney over the last decade, their painstaking work has helped expose what is now regarded as one of the biggest potential corporate scandals in British history.
Closer to home, NRN has been doing its own vital monitoring work. Led by local expert Dr Lucy Dickinson, we have been documenting water quality in our local waterways for the past six years — with similarly depressing results. If you'd like to understand the full picture, you can read our in-depth articles about the issue: from a visit to Cassington Sewage Treatment Works and what we found in our local waterways, to how Zurich handles its sewage works — and what we could learn from the Swiss approach. The contrast is striking, and the case for change has never been clearer.
